Introduction
The British Society of Gastroenterology (BSG) has long been dedicated to advancing the fields of Gastroenterology and Hepatology through research, education, and clinical practice. Among its many initiatives, the BSG established the Trainees’ Committee, originally focused on enhancing the training experience for Gastroenterology and Hepatology registrars across the UK.
Over time, the Trainees’ Committee evolved to include broader representation, first incorporating Internal Medicine Trainees (IMTs) and, as of 2021, welcoming the addition of Foundation Year (FY) representatives. This expansion highlights the Society’s recognition of the significance of early specialty exposure among medical students and early-career doctors (ie, pre-specialist registrar doctors, namely IMTs and FYs) in shaping specialty interests and career trajectories.
